Edward Bear was a Canadian rock band that was founded by Larry Evoy, who was the main vocalist and songwriter. Both Evoy and Edward Bear established a reputation for themselves in the Toronto’s Yorkville music scene before signing a recording contract with Capitol Records in 196Evoy wrote the song that became their debut hit, “You, Me, and Mexico.” In the United States, it peaked at number 68 and reached number 3 on the Canadian chart when it was released in February 1970.
Following the release of their first album, ‘Bearings,’ the band went on a tour across Canada. The band’s greatest success, “Last Song,” which was also written by Evoy, was published in 1972 and became a worldwide smash. It peaked at number one on the Canadian charts and reached number three on the American charts. Another Evoy song, “Close Your Eyes,” made it into the top 40 in the United States, reaching at Number 37 on the chart there. From 1972 until 1974, Evoy served as the band’s frontman, leading them through a number of lineup changes before embarking on a solo career. He went on to own and operate a music publishing company as well as a small recording studio, in addition to running a horse farm with his wife. Spencer, his son, is the frontman of the garage rock band “MFC Chicken,” which is located in London, United Kingdom.
